BAINBRIDGE ISLAND: JUST FAR ENOUGH FROM CITY LIFE

Bainbridge Island has been discovered.

Not so many years ago Bainbridge Island was a sleepy little community of fishing, forests and berry farms. What led to the island’s real estate boom?

Commuter Comfort

As Seattle real estate prices soared and outlying villages were swallowed up by the urban sprawl, this idyllic island “across the pond” was suddenly recognized as an opportunity to work urban, live rural, and play on either side of Puget Sound. What’s more, commuters found the half hour ferry ride to Seattle a vast improvement over freeway travel.

Lifestyle Accommodation

Bainbridge developed into a cultured, open-minded community accommodating diverse lifestyle alternatives. The educational attainment of its residents is second-highest in the state. Bainbridge is a haven for families; it consistently shows strong support for local schools and strong commitment to open space and parks.

Arts and Culture

In addition, the island supports a rich arts community, including a performing arts center, dance hall and theaters. More than 200 published authors call Bainbridge home. Twenty of the county’s best restaurants are located on-island.

Other points of interest include the renowned gardens of Bloedel Reserve, Bainbridge aquatic center, Fort Ward’s walking trails and 4000 foot public beach, Bainbridge Island Winery, Fay Bainbridge state park, the island farmer’s market and the Grand Forest with more than 200 acres of horseback riding (or walking) trails. Throughout the year the island hosts concerts, festivals and arts walks, as well as various garden, home and studio tours.

Convenience

Downtown Winslow offers supremely satisfying in-town living. From a townhouse or condo you’re close to dining, shopping, entertainment, exercise facilities, medical care and schools. For anything else you need – perhaps a major league sports event or some major league shopping – the Seattle/Bainbridge ferry terminal is right in town.

Stunning Views

The island’s attractions are obvious; blue Puget Sound waters underscore a gallery of marine vignettes: the skyscrapers of Seattle, busy ferries and lazy sailboats, harbors, mountains, bays, blazing sunrises and sunsets. Bainbridge presents a unique northwest perspective, unrivaled by any other.

Small Town Community

The recent evolution of Bainbridge Island has changed little of its native charm. There is a strong sense of community here: a feeling of belonging. This friendly island paradise is just far enough from city life.
